How Two Brothers Left Their Day Jobs

Back in 2022, Joshua and Michael Keith were tired of working for companies that didn’t share their values. So they did something crazy, they quit their steady paychecks and started Roofing Technologies Unlimited. Joshua had been running operations for another contractor, and Michael was crushing it in sales, but they kept seeing the same problems everywhere: customers getting the runaround, shoddy work, and zero accountability.

The brothers figured they could do better. Their Christian faith drives how they handle business, no bait-and-switch pricing, no disappearing after they cash your check, and definitely no treating your roof like a quick money grab. When they give you their word, that’s exactly what you get.

Why Katy and Houston Make Sense

We stick to Katy and the Houston area because this is home. Joshua and Michael have lived through enough Gulf Coast weather to know what works and what doesn’t. They’ve replaced roofs destroyed by those baseball-sized hail storms that seem to hit every few years. They know which neighborhoods in Heritage Park West have the original builder shingles from the 90s that are about to fail, and they understand why homes near the refineries need different materials than houses closer to downtown.

This isn’t textbook knowledge, it’s from actually working on roofs in 100-degree heat and dealing with Houston’s unpredictable weather patterns. When we recommend a particular shingle or suggest adding solar panels, it’s based on what we’ve seen work long-term in this climate.

The People Who Make It Happen

Our team isn’t just a bunch of guys with hammers. We’ve got seasoned roofers who learned their trade before nail guns were standard, working alongside younger crew members who keep us current on new techniques and materials. What matters most is that everyone who works for RTU understands we’re building something here.

Take our lead installer, for example, he’s been doing roofs for over 5 years and can spot potential problems before they become expensive headaches. Our project managers actually return phone calls and show up when scheduled. Our office team knows that when someone calls about storm damage, they’re probably stressed and need real answers, not sales pitches.

We’re also big on keeping our crew local whenever possible. Most of our team lives right here in Katy or nearby Houston neighborhoods, which means they understand what homeowners in this area are dealing with. They’ve probably experienced the same roofing issues themselves, whether it’s dealing with insurance adjusters after a storm or trying to keep energy bills reasonable during those brutal August heat waves. Plus, when your roofer lives down the street, they’re not going to cut corners and risk running into you at HEB later. It’s that kind of accountability that keeps everyone honest and focused on doing work we can all be proud of.

What’s Next for RTU

We’ve grown fast since starting three years ago, but we’re not trying to become the biggest roofing company in Houston. We want to be the one that Katy families trust most. The kind of company where you call us first when something goes wrong, and you tell your neighbors about us when they need roof work.

Whether your roof got hammered by the last storm, you’re tired of dealing with leaks, or you’re curious about solar panels, we handle each job like we’re working on our own house. Because in a way, we are – this is our neighborhood too.
